Make Poverty History March

Edinburgh 2nd July 2005

Never had Edinburgh seen such a crowd of people coming from every corner of UK, Europe and the world.

Never had Edinburgh seen such a huge demonstration in order to raise awareness about the situation of poverty in the world.

Never had Edinburgh seen so many people together of different age and social background, elderly people with their walking stick and babies in the prams, adult and children, boys and girls, young men and young women of so different beliefs, ethnic groups, organisations and ideologies and even the two Catholic Cardinals, Keith Patrick O'Brian (Edinburgh) and Cormac Murphy-O’Connor (Westminster).

All with only one message for the leaders of the most powerful and rich countries in the world: "enough is enough", "let us now pay attention to the billions of people suffering and dying because of  injustice, exploitation and unfair trade conditions; "we want a better world": not exploitation but "Justice" and "solidarity".

Never had Edinburgh witnessed such a huge crowd of people for whom "public manifestations", as Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor said in his sermon during the Holy Mass, "was not their cup of tea", but who were driven there because "their conscience" was telling them that they could not miss this opportunity to express openly what was in their hearts.

All with only one desire to truly

Make Poverty History for good !

"They" were there !

"We" were there !

"You" were there !

"I" was there!
